The University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) attaches great importance to protecting the privacy of its website users. BOKU therefore processes data exclusively in accordance with the GDPR and the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG). Therefore, we inform you below which data we collect when you visit our website and what we process and use it for.

This data protection declaration informs you which personal data is collected during a visit to the BOKU website or when accessing the content provided under the domain "boku.ac.at" and why BOKU processes this data and how BOKU handles this data.

The data protection declaration refers to those areas of the BOKU website whose content is publicly accessible, i.e. accessible without prior registration (hereinafter referred to as the "publicly accessible BOKU website").

BOKU also operates numerous web services that can only be used after registration and/or login. This applies in particular to course and examination registration, pre-registration for studies, course administration including resource management, eLearning services and other internet services. As part of these services, further personal data is collected and processed (such as name, matriculation number, address) in order to provide the respective services. Furthermore, departments, institutes and service facilities of BOKU may operate their own websites, for which they are responsible in terms of content. Further personal data may be collected on these websites that are not listed in this privacy policy.

Collection and use of personal data

Data collected upon visiting the website

When the publicly accessible BOKU website is accessed, data is collected that is automatically transmitted when the website is used. This data is recorded in server log files and systems for error analysis. The following data is collected:

• IP address from which access was made, including proxies
• Date and time of access
• Access method (e. g. GET)
• URL accessed incl. server name
• Access protocol (e. g. HTTP/1.1)
• HTTP response code
• File size
• Response time
• Content type of the response
• Previously visited URL (referrer URL)
• Operating system and browser type (user agent)
• Name of your Internet access provider

The log files are stored for a period of three months.

BOKU processes this information for the purpose of compiling anonymized usage statistics and ensuring the proper operation and monitoring the performance of the website.

Cookies

The BOKU website uses so-called cookies. These are small data units that are stored on the user's device when they visit the BOKU website.
This enables the website to remember certain entries and settings (e.g. login) over a certain period of time while the cookie is stored.

The BOKU website uses cookies in particular to customize the display of the website for authenticated users and to make the use of the website as convenient as possible. Cookies are also used for analytical purposes in order to optimize BOKU's systems and improve the quality of the website.

The personal data collected on the publicly accessible BOKU website will not be passed on to third parties by BOKU, unless otherwise required by law.

Right of access, rectification, erasure or restriction, right to object and right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority

Users can request information about personal data concerning them at any time in accordance with the statutory data protection provisions, in particular Articles 15 to 21 of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as have incorrect data corrected or deleted or request the restriction of processing or object to the use of their data.

Such requests can be addressed to the office specified in the "Contact details" section.

For individual services that are available on the BOKU website for logged-in users, it is also possible to make changes to their own personal data themselves.

In accordance with Section 13 of the Austrian Data Protection Act (DSG), users also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority if they believe that the processing of their personal data violates the GDPR or the first or second main section of the DSG.

The websites offered by BOKU may contain links to external websites, i.e. third-party websites. However, BOKU has no influence on the content and data protection standards of such linked websites. BOKU therefore accepts no liability for external links.

Data security

BOKU takes suitable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect users' data from accidental or unlawful destruction, loss and access by unauthorized persons.
