In recent decades, more and more areas of tropical rainforest have been cleared in order to convert them into agricultural land.
A research group describes in a current studythat many plants in Central and South America and West Africa can regrow within 20 years.
However, it takes over 100 years for the areas to fully regenerate and for biodiversity to reach a similarly high level.

Beigetragen zu der Publikation hat auch Peter Hietz. He is a lecturer at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and also project manager of the BOKU climate protection project Reforestation and agroforestry in San Miguel / Costa Rica. Findings that were obtained during the accompanying research of the project have also been incorporated into the aforementioned study.
